Mr. Michael R. Wipperman serves as the Deputy Chief Architect, USAF, within the Department of the Air Force (DAF) Program Executive Office (PEO) for Command, Control, Communications, and Battle Management (C3BM) Architecture and Systems Engineering.

Mr. Wipperman supports the DAF PEO C3BM Chief Architect and his US Space Force (USSF) counterpart in ensuring the technical integrity of the DAF BATTLE NETWORK. This integrated system-of-systems connects sensors, effectors, and logistics, providing enhanced situational awareness, faster operational decisions, and decisive direction to the force. The DAF BATTLE NETWORK delivers the resilient decision advantage needed by USAF, USSF, Joint and Coalition forces to overcome strategic challenges. As Deputy Chief Architect, he develops and manages operationally driven systems-of-systems architectures for the network.

Concurrently, Mr. Wipperman serves as the Division Chief for the Architecture Design, Integration, and Evaluation (RSA) at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. In this role, he guides the technical architecture for the entire DAF Air and Space portfolio, enabling the accelerated, agile delivery of integrated warfighter capabilities aligned with national security objectives. His division is expanding to incorporate a balanced team of technologists and warfighters to identify architectural technology gaps and develop system-of-systems solutions.

His career began in the automotive industry, where he gained experience in Research & Development, manufacturing, systems engineering, and acquisition as a buyer. In 2009, he transitioned to AFRL and quickly leveraged his broad experience to develop aerospace vehicle structures technologies. He led the system integration of a 5th-to-5th generation fighter communications gateway onto an attritable XQ-58 aircraft and served as the test director for its flight test campaign before assuming his current roles as DAF Deputy Chief Architect and AFRL/RSA Chief.

Mr. Wipperman holds a Master of Science degree in Aeronautics and Astronautics Engineering and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University. He also holds an Emerging Leaders Master’s Certificate from the University of Dayton and a Systems Engineering Master’s Certificate from the Air Force Institute of Technology. He is a graduate of the Air War College at Air University, and holds SPRD&E: STM Level III, E Level I certifications, as well as a Six Sigma Green Belt.
